বিশেষ করে বাংলাদেশের মতো দেশে সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা প্রতিদিনের ঘটনা। দিন দিন তা বেড়েই চলেছে। প্রতি বছর সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় হাজার হাজার মানুষ মারা যায়। অনেকে সারাজীবন আত্মত্যাগ করেছেন। দুর্ঘটনায় হাজার হাজার মানুষের স্বপ্ন ভেঙ্গে যায়। সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় পরিবারের একমাত্র উপার্জনক্ষম ব্যক্তি আজ পঙ্গু হওয়ায় অনেক পরিবার নিঃস্ব হয়ে পড়েছে। সবচেয়ে বেশি সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা ঘটছে শহরাঞ্চল ও মহাসড়কে। ট্রাফিক আইন না মানা, বেপরোয়া ড্রাইভিং, বেপরোয়া যানবাহন এবং ওভারটেকিংয়ের প্রবণতা সহ বিভিন্ন কারণে সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে। বাংলাদেশের শহরগুলোতে টেম্পো, লেগুনাসহ বিভিন্ন ধরনের ত্রুটিপূর্ণ যানবাহন রয়েছে। সম্প্রতি যুক্ত হয়েছে ব্যাটারিচালিত অটোরিকশা। যাদের গতি অনেক বেশি কিন্তু ব্রেক অতটা উন্নত না হওয়ায় তারা গতি নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে পারে না। বেশিরভাগ সময়, এটি অতিরিক্ত গতির কারণে ঘটে। এটা কমানো অসম্ভব নয়। সবচেয়ে ভয়ঙ্কর কারণ হলো তরুণ প্রজন্মের বেপরোয়া মোটরসাইকেল চালানো। তারা আমাদের জাতির ভবিষ্যৎ ধ্বংস করে। রাস্তার দুর্ঘটনা একটি অপ্রীতিকর এবং অপ্রত্যাশিত ঘটনা যা রাস্তায় একাধিক অটোমোবাইল সংঘর্ষের ফলে ঘটে। এটি এখন বাংলাদেশে একটি সাধারণ ঘটনা হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। প্রতিদিনই আমরা সড়ক দুর্ঘটনার খবর পাই দৈনিক পত্রিকায়। এতে বাস, ট্রাক, রিকশা, ট্যাক্সি এবং অন্যান্য যানবাহন অংশগ্রহণ করে। এটা ক্রমাগত বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। বাংলাদেশে এটা একটা বড় সমস্যা। প্রতি বছর সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় হাজার হাজার মানুষ মারা যাচ্ছে। এই জাতীয় সমস্যা সমাধানে সরকারি-বেসরকারি উভয় সংস্থারই প্রয়োজনীয় পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া উচিত। কঠোরভাবে নিয়ম আরোপ করতে হবে, ত্রুটিপূর্ণ যানবাহন মহাসড়কে নিষিদ্ধ করতে হবে। রাস্তা পারাপারের সময় সবাই ফুট ওভার ব্রিজ ব্যবহার করতে বাধ্য হবে। ক্ষতিকারক সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি করা সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ; সড়ক দুর্ঘটনার প্রভাব।
