The largest bridge in Bangladesh is the Padma Multipurpose Bridge. On 25 June 2022, The Padma Bridge earned the title of the longest bridge in Bangladesh. It is a great achievement after the liberation war. This dream Padma Bridge is the biggest project implemented by Bangladesh without any foreign aid. This bridge connects the southwestern part with the northeastern part of Bangladesh. This project is being constructed of concrete and steel. The length of the main bridge is 6.15 km and the width is 10.10 meters. This bridge has 42 pillars. Each pillar has 6 spans. Each pillar is 150 meters long. The bridge connecting Mawa in Munshiganj district to Jajira in Shariatpur district has two layers. It has a four-lane road at the top and a railway at the bottom. The country’s largest mega project has been built with the sole efforts of the honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and with full domestic funding without any foreign aid. Initially, in 2007, the cost of the Padma Bridge was estimated at 10 thousand 161 crores, 75 lakh taka. However, due to design changes, river management, and various technical complications, its cost came to about 30 thousand crores. The Padma Bridge will mainly be used for rail, gas, power lines, and fiber optic cable expansion in the future. The complete design of the bridge was formed by a team of national and international consultants led by ECOM. China Major Bridge has been contracted to build bridge. The project will directly benefit more than 30 million people (44,000 square km, which is 29% of the total area of Bangladesh). The dream of Bengalis with their own money is on the way to reality after overcoming various uncertainties. Everyone hopes that this bridge will soon change the country’s economy and improve the living conditions of people.
